The PGY2 Pharmacy Residency Program at Arkansas Children's Hospital provides a structured educational program within a pediatric institution; this program is meant to develop independent and confident clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care in a wide range of pediatric conditions. Residents who complete the PGY2 residency are prepared for advanced pediatric patient care, specialized positions, and national certification.
Rotation sites include critical care (pediatric, cardiovascular, and neonatal), hematology/oncology, general pediatrics, ambulatory care (solid organ or bone marrow transplant), emergency medicine, infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, and pharmacogenomics.
Applicants must be a graduate of an ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program, participate in and obey the rules of the ASHP Residency Matching Program, and be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of Arkansas. PGY2 residents must have successfully completed an ASHP-accredited or candidate status PGY1 residency program.
Arkansas Children’s is the only hospital system in the state solely dedicated to caring for children, which allows our organization to uniquely shape the landscape of pediatric care in Arkansas. We are driven by four core values: safety, teamwork, compassion, and excellence. These values inform every decision and every action, from the aggressive pursuit of zero hospital infections to treating each family with dignity, kindness, and concern. These core values fundamentally guide our work at Arkansas Children’s.
For more than a century, we have continuously evolved to meet the unique needs of the children of Arkansas and beyond. Our system includes a 336-bed hospital in Little Rock with the state’s only pediatric Level 1 Trauma Center, Burn Center, Level 4 Neonatal Intensive Care and Pediatric Intensive Care, and Research Institute as well as a nationally-recognized Transport Service. A sister campus, Arkansas Children’s Northwest, opened in February 2018, bringing 233,613 square feet of inpatient beds, emergency care, clinic rooms and diagnostic services to children in that corner of the state. We are nationally ranked by U.S. News World Report in seven specialties (2024-2025):... Cancer, Cardiology, Neonatology, Nephrology, Neurology, Orthopedics, and Pulmonology. Arkansas Children's is Magnet recognized, which puts us among the elite eight percent of hospitals worldwide that have earned Magnet status, and we have earned several other awards and recognitions including ELSO Award of Excellence, FACT (Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy) accreditation, and were named as one of the Best Places to Work by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in 2024.
