The University of Illinois (UIC), Retzky College of Pharmacy (COP), Rockford, in conjunction with OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center (SAMC) Rockford, offers this PGY2 Emergency Medicine Residency. The resident’s focus will be on direct care of ED patients within SAMC. The residency offers specialty training in emergency medicine, trauma, and critical care. An academic appointment with the Retzky COP is provided and the resident may participate in didactic lectures, and function as a co-preceptor for UIC Retzky COP students and PGY1 residents. Residency requirements include clinical research, completion of two publishable manuscripts, didactic lecture(s), and a continuing education lecture is required. Pharmacy practice includes staffing every fourth weekend in the emergency department. By focusing on developing clinical pharmacists prepared to offer medication-related care on multidisciplinary teams, the program provides the advantages of preparation for establishing a new pharmacy service and board certification. Under the mentorship and guidance of experienced clinical faculty members, the pharmacy resident will transition from a PGY1 to an advanced specialty independent practitioner during the 12-month program. This distinct University and Hospital affiliated program prepares graduates to practice in a variety of settings (Academia, Community Hospital, etc.).
Site Special Features: OSF SAMC is a Magnet® recognized 254-bed Level I Trauma, burn center and DNV Certified comprehensive stroke center. SAMC is one of 16 hospitals within the OSF HealthCare System. It has been nationally recognized for its management of strokes and coronary artery bypass graft surgeries. The Department of Pharmacy maintains an Affiliation Agreement with the UIC Retzky COP.
Pharm.D. degree from ACPE accredited university, completion of an ASHP Accredited PGY1 program, eligibility for licensure in Illinois within 120 days of residency start date, completed applications, college transcripts, interview, 3 letters of recommendation submitted through PhORCAS due 1/2/2025.
