The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency is a one-year training program offering advanced practice experiences in a variety of outpatient settings. The program is conducted primarily in Ascension Medical Group Via Christi Clinic primary care locations, with rotation opportunities across a variety of specialty clinics as well.
Residents will participate in several longitudinal rotations, including primary care, cystic fibrosis, anticoagulation, research, and academia as well as service and professional development. Numerous elective opportunities are available for the resident to select from including transitional care clinic, heart failure clinic, pharmacotherapy, outpatient pharmacy, infusion, rheumatology and 340B Drug Pricing Program rotation. Residents will also have the opportunity to initiate a new clinical pharmacy service during their residency year.
Ambulatory care clinical pharmacists and PGY2 residents at AMG-VC practice under a collaborative practice agreement which is broad in scope, allowing for modification of medication regimens, initiation of new medications, ordering of labs needed for medication management and referrals if necessary. We have strong collaborative relationships with our physicians as we work alongside them every day in their clinics.
The residency program is conducted in conjunction with the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. Residents will gain valuable experience in various teaching environments including providing didactic lecture(s), skills labs, APPE precepting, and leading topic discussions for students. A teaching certificate program is also provided by KU for all Wichita-area residents.
Graduates of our residency are prepared to take positions as a clinical ambulatory care practitioner or as clinical faculty members with a school of pharmacy. Additionally, our graduates will be prepared to sit for the BCACP exam.
