The PGY2 Emergency Medicine (EM) Pharmacy residency at ECU Health Medical Center offers rotations in a variety of settings that includes Emergency Medicine, Toxicology, Pre-Hospital, Medicine ICU, Surgical/Trauma ICU, Cardiac ICU, Cardiovascular Surgery ICU, Neurosciences ICU and Antimicrobial Stewardship. EM pharmacists provide clinical services in the 58-bed Adult Emergency Department, with an additional eight-bed psychiatric observation area and the 16-bed Children's Emergency Department. The goal of the residency is to produce a confident and competent emergency medicine pharmacist, accomplished through active participation in trauma alerts, cardiac resuscitations, stroke alerts, STEMI alerts, sedations and toxicology events in the emergency department. EM PGY2 residents also provide education to pharmacy students, PGY1 pharmacy residents, emergency medicine residents, medical students and nursing staff.

As a Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, and regional referral center, our institution provides advanced emergency and critical care services throughout the region and ensures that the resident encounters a variety of acuity levels among patients seeking emergency care.
