PGY-2 EMERGENCY MEDICINE PHARMACY RESIDENCY – These 12-month residencies are offered in conjunction with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. The PGY2 residency in emergency medicine pharmacy focuses on the provision of clinical pharmacy services to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Emergency Department (ED) in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The program is sponsored by the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy.RWJUH is the Level 1 trauma center for Central New Jersey, seeing more than 100,000 patients annually. The resident's focus will be on the direct care of ED patients in treatment areas such as emergent care, urgent care, non?urgent care, pediatrics and psychiatry. Additional focus in toxicology is possible through elective rotation with the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System (NJPIES) as well as monthly toxicologist consultants’ conference at the New York City Poison Control Center. Other rotation electives include MICU, Community Emergency Medicine, and more. An academic appointment with the school of pharmacy is provided and the residents have the opportunity to teach in the Emergency Medicine Pharmacotherapy elective as well as the Poisons and Management of Drug Abuse course. Residents function as a co-preceptor for Rutgers University pharmacy students and may participate in the teaching certificate program at Rutgers University if not completed during PGY1 year. Graduates of the program are empowered to treat and appropriately triage the most complex chronic and acute illnesses presented by ED patients, including those with multiple disease states and serious complications. They also acquire the experience necessary to exercise leadership for emergency medicine pharmacy practice in the health care system. Graduates of the emergency medicine pharmacy residency are experienced in teaching other health professionals and those in training to be health professionals.
Job Requirements: Applicants must possess a Pharm.D. degree. A PGY-1 Pharmacy residency is required. Applicants should be licensed or eligible for licensure in New Jersey.
