The psychiatric pharmacy services offered are a collaborative effort between Monmouth Medical Center, Penn Medicine Princeton House Behavioral Health, St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, and Rutgers University Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. Additional elective opportunities are available at other practice sites in New Jersey.
Program Goals:
The primary goal of the program is to offer advanced training in psychiatric pharmacy with an emphasis on the following areas:
Assessment and evaluation of the pharmacological treatment of patients with psychiatric conditions.
Development and enhancement of teaching skills through didactic and experiential teaching of Doctor of Pharmacy students.
Development and enhancement of written and oral communication skills
Development of research skills.
Responsibilities:
Though certain responsibilities of the resident are required, the program has the flexibility to develop activities consistent with the resident’s background and career goals. In general, the resident responsibilities include:
Attend daily rounds and make appropriate recommendations to inter-disciplinary treatment teams
Design, monitor, and evaluate treatment goals for psychiatric patients that consider patient-,disease-, and drug-specific information and ethical considerations
Present educational in-services on pharmacy topics to patients, pharmacy staff, and inter-disciplinary treatment team
Lead inpatient and outpatient pharmacy medication education groups
Supervise pharmacy students on Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotations.
Present didactic lectures to pharmacy students at the Rutgers Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy
Complete a research project related to the provision of psychiatric and/or neurologic pharmacy care, as well as presenting this research at a national conference
Applicants should possess a Pharm.D. degree. A Pharmacy Practice Residency is desired but not mandatory. Job Requirements: Applicants should possess a Pharm.D. degree.
