This 12-month residency is offered in conjunction with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy (EMSOP) and the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation (BMSF). The primary goal of the program is to improve health outcomes and decrease health disparities for populations disproportionately affected by serious diseases. The PharmD Resident will spend approximately six months in sub-Saharan Africa working with colleagues in the BMS Global Cancer Disparities-Africa program to help build capacity and provide training to BMSF grantee partners. The Resident will then complete the remainder of the program in Lawrence Township, New Jersey to develop program management and operations through the Health Disparities in Cardiovascular and Immunologic Diseases and other BMSF initiatives that address health inequities in the United States.

As adjunct faculty at the EMSOP, there will be many opportunities for the Resident to enhance his/her experience by collaborating with faculty through scholarship, publication, teaching, and maintenance of clinical skills. The Resident will also be invited to participate in activities offered through the Rutgers Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowship (RPIF) Program (http://pharmafellows.rutgers.edu) including participation in the bimonthly Professional Development Series and will have access to a large network of Fellowship alumni.

The resident will spend six months in sub-Saharan Africa to help build capacity and provide training to grantee partners addressing cancer disparities. The resident will also complete six months in Lawrence Township, New Jersey learning program management and operations to address cardiovascular and immunologic disease inequities in the United States.

The resident will also be provided with opportunities to participate and collaborate with Rutgers faculty through scholarship, publication, teaching, and activities.

Applicants should possess a PharmD degree. Completion of a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency or equivalent experience is strongly preferred. An interest in exploring a career in public health is desirable. Prior experience, and/or a professional passion for working in public health, community health and/or in disease state management including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and/or immunologic disease is preferred. Candidates must be willing and able to relocate to sub-Saharan Africa for at least six months. Rutgers is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
