Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC) in Dallas, Texas is seeking well-qualified candidates for our PGY2 Pharmacy Residency Programs in Critical Care (RPD: Molly Merz), Emergency Medicine (RPD: Katie Weigartz), Oncology (RPD: Candace Hooper), and Solid Organ Transplantation (RPD: Lisa Fuller). Each program offers one resident position per academic year.
Graduates of the BUMC PGY2 residency programs are highly proficient, independent practitioners in their areas of expertise. The multidisciplinary teams and patient population at BUMC provide residents with diverse training experience.
PGY2 Critical Care Residency:
At Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, the ASHP-accredited Critical Care PGY2 Residency program provides broad experiences with over 100 adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, divided into Medical, Surgical-Trauma, Neurosurgical, Cardiothoracic, and Bone Marrow Transplant ICUs. BUMC provides care for a variety of high acuity critically ill and emergency patients and is designated as a Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and ECMO Center of Excellence. Our PGY2 Critical Care Residents function as integral members of the critical care team to acquire practical clinical experience. Through patient data collection and analysis, residents develop the knowledge and skills to provide patient-specific and evidence-based pharmacotherapy while functioning as independent practitioners. In addition, valuable leadership and research skills are developed through participation in code blue response, critical care-related multidisciplinary committees, teaching, and completion of a research project.
At Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, the ASHP-accredited Emergency Medicine PGY2 Residency program provides substantial exposure to a variety of disease states in a high acuity, 74-bed emergency department. BUMC is a designated Level 1 Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, Chest Pain Center and ECMO Center of Excellence with a state-of-the-art emergency department that averages 100,000 visits and over 25,000 admissions per year. As the flagship hospital in a large hospital system, BUMC is integral in driving change within Baylor Scott & White Health. The purpose of the Emergency Medicine PGY2 Residency program is to develop confident, well-rounded emergency medicine clinicians prepared to serve as leaders in clinical service, research, and teaching.
At Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, the ASHP-accredited Oncology PGY2 Residency program is designed to provide specialized training for residents interested in oncology. Residents will gain experience in the comprehensive management of a diverse population of cancer patients who are at various stages of their disease, from initial diagnosis to end of life care.
Our one-year specialty program allows residents to gain experience in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. The program provides a variety of learning experiences that offer many opportunities to work with multidisciplinary teams to design evidence-based patient-centered care. Upon successful completion of a PGY2 Oncology Residency, residents are prepared to provide advanced patient care in any oncology setting, perform practice-related research, and serve patients, providers, and institutions as a well-rounded clinical expert in oncology medicine.
At Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, the ASHP-accredited Solid Organ Transplant PGY2 Residency program aims to develop well-rounded clinicians who can provide high level pharmaceutical care in a variety of solid organ transplant settings. Our one-year specialty program is designed to provide inpatient and outpatient training for residents within the following solid organ transplant groups: kidney, liver, pancreas, auto-islet, uterus, heart, and lung. Residents will gain experience in the comprehensive management of a diverse population of transplant recipients and living donors throughout the various phases of care. Other areas of focus include development of skills in teaching, research, guideline and protocol development, and practice leadership. The structure and learning experiences will be continuously customized to meet each resident’s personal and professional goals.
