Located in the historically rich and culturally diverse Southwest, the College of Pharmacy is part of the Health Sciences campus and works collaboratively with the School of Medicine, College of Nursing, UNM Hospitals, and UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center in the state’s largest health complex. The College holds the distinction of having the most ethnically diverse student body in the nation. Unique programs within the College include the New Mexico Poison and Drug Information Center, UNM/NMSU Cooperative Pharmacy program, and the oldest training program in nuclear pharmacy in the country. UNM offers exciting opportunities for inter-professional practice, research, and education. The College has 53 faculty and 474 preceptors throughout the state. Strong partnerships with the New Mexico Pharmacists Association, New Mexico Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy have created disease state management programs and innovative practice opportunities including pharmacist clinicians with prescriptive authority. The College ranks 12th in NIH research funding and 22nd in overall research funding among the colleges of pharmacies in the United State...s. College faculty collaborate extensively across the university (UNM College of Nursing, School of Medicine [i.e., Departments of Family and Community Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neuroscience, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry], College of Population Health, Department of Economics, and other Centers and Institutes in New Mexico [i.e., Center for Developmental Disabilities, Prevention Research Center, Center on Alcoholism Substance Abuse and Addictions (CASAA), Clinical and Translational Sciences Center (CTSC)]) as well as Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratory VA Cooperative Studies Program, Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, and the MIND Research Network. In addition to a stimulating academic environment, the College is located in Albuquerque, in the Sandia Mountain valley. With more than 310 days of sunshine a year, Albuquerque has year-round recreational opportunities and more than 28,000 acres of open space.
