Ascension Saint Thomas invites you to join our PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency, established in 2020 and fully accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). Our program offers a comprehensive and hands-on learning experience, preparing residents to excel as clinical specialists in diverse ambulatory care settings.
Residents will engage in a variety of pharmacist-managed and multidisciplinary clinical environments across the Ascension Saint Thomas health system. Training is guided by a core team of experienced preceptors, including eight primary care pharmacists, two specialty pharmacists in gastroenterology/rheumatology and cardiology, two anticoagulation pharmacists. In addition to core month long rotations in primary care, the resident will build their clinical acumen and practice management skills longitudinally by working in a Family Medicine Residency Affiliated clinic, gaining real-world experience in providing comprehensive medication management for patients with chronic conditions. Finally, the resident has access to a wide variety of elective choices.
Our program offers numerous opportunities for collaboration and growth, including partnerships with three PGY-1 residencies, and close affiliations with the University of Tennessee, Belmont University, and Lipscomb University Colleges of Pharmacy, as well as the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS). These connections provide unique opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, research, and professional networking.
Program Highlights:
Residents create and practice under their own collaborative practice agreements, gaining experience in credentialing and billing for their services.
Ascension Saint Thomas is the first health system in Tennessee to credential with a commercial payor and receive reimbursement for an E/M office visit under the 2017 Pharmacist Provider Status law.
Extensive opportunities for interprofessional collaboration and mentorship, preparing residents for diverse roles in ambulatory care, transitions of care, academia, and population health.
