Nebraska Medicine and the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) are well known for antimicrobial stewardship and the treatment of infectious diseases (www.unmc.edu/asp). The PGY2 ID residency at Nebraska Medicine is designed to prepare each resident to enter a position as a well-qualified clinical pharmacy specialist in a health-system or a clinical faculty member at a college of pharmacy specialized in the treatment of infections.
Required rotations for the infectious diseases residency include Antimicrobial Stewardship – both Institutional and Outreach, teaching rounds on the General Infectious Diseases consult service (3 months), Solid Organ Transplant Infectious Diseases, Oncology Infectious Diseases, Orthopedic Infectious Diseases/Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) Program, Microbiology/Orientation, HIV clinic, Drug Use and Policy, Interprofessional Education: Teaching/Pharmacy Grand Rounds and a Major Project. Additional experiences exist in Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Leadership Development. Pharmacy practice staffing will average every third weekend in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.
Nebraska Medicine is an 809-bed health-system with two hospitals in the Omaha area. The resident will be based on the main academic campus consisting of The Nebraska Medical Center, Buffett Cancer Center and Lied Transplant Center towers. It is designated a comprehensive Level One trauma center with over 80,000 emergency room visits per year. As the primary teaching partner for UNMC, Nebraska Medicine is a respected leader in biocontainment, blood/marrow transplantation and cellular therapy, cardiology, neurosciences, oncology and solid organ transplantation.
Applicants need to be graduates of an ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy degree program
Resident applicants must be participating in, or have completed, an ASHP–accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency or one in the ASHP accreditation process (i.e., one with candidate or preliminary accreditation status).
Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Nebraska
Licensure must be obtained by July 31
Applicants shall participate and adhere to all rules of the ASHP Resident Matching Program
All applicants, both foreign and domestic, must provide proof of United States citizenship or legal immigration status, or proper work authorization (permanent or temporary). At this time, applicants for the PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residency programs are not eligible for VISA sponsorship.
