The Health Access Fellowship develops pharmacy leaders who are able to utilize the practical skills developed during the fellowship to identify community needs, both locally and globally, and implement public health-focused strategies that address health inequities. This 2-year postgraduate fellowship is based in Indianapolis, IN through the Center for Health Excellence, Quality and Innovation (CHEQI) at the Purdue University College of Pharmacy. The fellowship is designed to create an environment that develops the skills of prospective health access fellows to increase competitiveness for a position in academia, community health, public health, or a health policy environment. Fellows will be eligible to complete a Master of Public Health through Purdue Global online.
Program Goals and Objectives:
Graduates of the fellowship program will have the knowledge and skills to build and implement programs addressing social determinants of health, while expanding the role of the pharmacist.
By completion of the 2-year program the fellow will learn how to:
Demonstrate Understanding of Health Access Principles
Show a strong grasp of health access concepts and how they apply to program development and implementation.
Develop Inclusive and Culturally Humble Programs
Effectively design programs that address the needs of diverse populations and are centered on cultural humility.
Identify and Engage Key Stakeholders
Navigate dynamics to build and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners organizations.
Utilize Data to Inform Program Design
Use data and evidence to guide program development and make informed decisions.
Monitor and Evaluate Program Outcomes
Effectively monitor and assess program outcomes, including impacts on health disparities and participant satisfaction.
Address Barriers to Access and Participation
Identify and mitigate barriers that may prevent underserved or marginalized populations from accessing healthcare and necessary services.
Secure and Manage Resources Effectively
Demonstrate skills in managing grants, personnel, and other resources to support program goals.
Effective and Appropriate Communication Across Multi-Sector Partners
Utilize written and verbal communication in ways that are accessible and understandable to diverse audiences.
Adapt and Implement Programs
Adapt programs based on feedback and evaluation to enhance effectiveness and reach.
Demonstrate Leadership and Advocacy for Health Access
Actively advocate for health access and demonstrate leadership in promoting and advancing health access within the program and broader community.
Required Qualifications
PharmD
Indiana pharmacy license or ability to be licensed
Demonstrated history of involvement in community/health access initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
Spanish language fluency
Completion of a PGY1 or other equivalent pharmacy practice experience
Experience with data collection, evaluation, and research dissemination
Involvement in extracurricular activities outside of PharmD program/residency training
