Graduate Student in Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy
The Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy (POP) track of the Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy is seeking applications from highly motivated Pharm.D. graduates interested in pursuing a PhD in pharmaceutical outcomes and policy. The program is designed for Pharm.D. graduates interested in research careers to design and implement studies, as well as develop theory and data-driven tools to understand the factors driving medication use and effects. Students can pursue research in the following areas:
Assess the impact that medications and other substance use have on health outcomes at the population-level, considering variations in access, patterns of use, and social factors that affect health.
Evaluate medication use and associated health outcomes in special populations, leveraging data sources such as administrative databases (electronic health records, insurance claims), population surveys, and surveillance systems.
Apply findings to real-world settings that promote appropriate medication use for patients and professionals.
Rigorously quantify the impact of global, national, and state pharmaceutical law, policies, and regulations on patients and medical professionals.
During the program, students will engage in applied research projects and complete courses leading to the Ph.D. degree. The program is interdisciplinary, consisting of core requirements in (pharmaco)epidemiology, policy analysis, informatics, and statistical methods.
Graduates of our program are highly-valued by the pharmaceutical industry, government agencies, and academia. Admission to the program is awarded on a competitive basis and includes an annual stipend of up to $40K and a benefits package consisting of a tuition scholarship and paid graduate student health insurance.
