Job Summary: The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist plays a critical role in providing advanced pharmaceutical care to critically ill patients at the University of Missouri Health Care. This highly skilled individual will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal pharmacotherapeutic outcomes, contributing to the safe and effective use of medications in complex clinical scenarios.
Key Responsibilities:
Pharmacotherapy Management: Provide expert recommendations for drug therapy in the management of critically ill patients, ensuring alignment with best practices and evidence-based guidelines.
Code Response: Actively participate in code blue and other emergency response teams, offering pharmacological expertise in acute care situations.
Consultations: Provide pharmacokinetic and pharmacotherapeutic consults in accordance with departmental protocols, ensuring personalized care for patients with complex medication regimens.
Clinical Guidelines & Policy Development: Lead or contribute to the development of pharmacotherapy-related best practice guidelines, policies, and procedures to enhance patient care and safety across the institution.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Serve as a key member of various departmental and interdisciplinary teams, providing insight and recommendations to optimize medication management and clinical outcomes.
Training and Education: Act as a preceptor for pharmacy residents (PGY1 and PGY2 Critical Care) and pharmacy students (IPPE/APPE). Provide hands-on mentorship, guidance, and education to help develop the next generation of clinical pharmacy professionals. Educate healthcare staff, including medical students, residents, and nursing teams, on best practices in pharmacotherapy and emerging medication management trends.
Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives to monitor medication use, minimize adverse drug events, and improve therapeutic outcomes.

Qualifications
Possession of a license or eligibility for a license to practice as a Pharmacist in Missouri is required.
Previous experience in hospital pharmacy and/or completion of ASHP-accredited PGY1 Residency is required.
Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY2 Residency program is preferred.
Board certification is preferred.
