PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency

The PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is a fully ASHP accredited, 12-month, full-time, postgraduate training experience at the health system’s 885-bed academic teaching hospital located in Winston-Salem, NC.

This medical center serves the most critically ill adult and pediatric patients throughout the entire Triad/Piedmont area and is the region’s adult and pediatric level 1 trauma center and verified burn center. This program focuses on developing the resident’s analytical, clinical, teaching, and leadership skills required to become a successful emergency medicine pharmacist. The resident will be quickly integrated into emergency medicine pharmacy team and work closely with attending physicians, medical residents, nurses, medics, advanced practice providers, and respiratory therapists to provide the best patient care possible. The resident will help precept PGY1 residents, APPE students, and, if desired, can obtain a teaching certificate. The resident will be involved in departmental and organizational initiatives to improve the safety and quality of patient care as it relates to emergency medicine.  This program offers one position per academic year.

PGY2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency

The PGY2 Cardiology Residency program focuses on developing clinical analytical, teaching and leadership skills needed to care for cardiology patients. The program covers various care settings including the intensive care unit, general floor, operating room, procedural areas and ambulatory clinic. The resident will be involved in departmental or organizational committees or initiatives that focus on the care of cardiology patients.

Required focused rotations include cardiac critical care x 2, cardiothoracic surgery x 1, advanced heart failure/heart transplant x1, electrophysiology x1, general cardiology x2 and a longitudinal experience in cardiology ambulatory care. Elective rotations allow for exploration of the resident’s clinical interest and include repeating any of the above focused cardiology rotations as well as cardiology adjacent rotations such as renal transplant or stroke service.

The resident will gain experience in academia through preceptorship of pharmacy students and residents as well as the option to give a didactic lecture at Wake Forest University Physician Assistant Program.

Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy, eligibility for licensure in the state of North Carolina or currently licensed in the state, and successful completion of an ASHP accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency.
