The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is one of the largest pediatric cancer centers in the country, treating more than 500 newly diagnosed patients and performing more than 80 hematopoietic cell transplants annually. We are an active Children’s Oncology Group (COG) member and have more than 200 clinical studies available to our patients. We are also home to the largest pediatric hematology program in the country, including the largest pediatric sickle cell disease program that treats more than 2,000 unique patients each year. The center is composed of 91 inpatient beds located at the newly opened state-of-the-art Arthur M. Blank Hospital. More information on our center can be found here:
Aflac Pharmacist Specialists provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care for patients admitted to the Hem/Onc and BMT units and are active participants in daily multi-disciplinary, family-centered rounds. They are intimately involved in day-to-day direct patient care decisions and participate in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives. The Aflac pharmacists are involved in several subcommittees within the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center and are heavily involved in guideline/protocol development and implementation. Additionally, Aflac pharmacist specialists educate medical residents and fellows and precept pharmacy residents and student pharmacists.
