The Pediatric Clinical Pharmacy Specialists work with multidisciplinary teams in the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center and are responsible for the provision and oversight of pharmacotherapy for pediatric patients in the various acute care services and ambulatory care settings. The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center is a 215-bed pediatric hospital within a large academic medical center. With more than 90,000 patient visits per year, and nearly 9,000 annual admissions, it serves as a comprehensive regional referral center, as well as the designated pediatric trauma and burn center for the state of Maryland.

All Pediatric Clinical Pharmacy Specialists participate in several specialist-group shared responsibilities, examples include staff development activities, formulary and committee involvement, rotating clinical on-call and rapid response team coverage. In addition, they provide education to students, pharmacy and medical residents, other health care practitioners, and serve as preceptors for pharmacy residents in our ASHP-accredited PGY-1 pharmacy practice and PGY-2 specialty practice programs. Successful candidates will also support drug use projects and research and seek to assume a leadership role in their clinical area as well as in the profession of pharmacy. Faculty appointments are available through affiliations with the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy, and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. 

Clinical Pharmacy Specialist position for Pediatric Emergency Medicine (Evenings)

In addition to duties shared by the Pediatric Clinical Pharmacy Specialist group listed above, this role will provide clinical pharmacy services to the patients in the dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department (Ped ED) at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. They will serve as the primary pharmacist resource during evening shift for the Peds ED, and be physically present in that unit the majority of their shift. Activities are numerous and include but are not limited to: collaboration with the other clinical pharmacy specialists for Ped ED on various projects and initiatives, participate in multidisciplinary Ped ED care team activities, such as reviewing medication orders, medication histories and medication reconciliation activities. They will also respond to trauma and medical emergencies, facilitate obtaining or the preparation of urgent medications commonly stocked in the Peds ED, or those needed from the pharmacy. They will promote the safe and effective use of medications by consulting with other health care professionals concerning problems and instruct patients and families on their medications.

Preferred qualifications for this position include the completion of a PharmD degree, PGY1 residency, and PGY2 specialty residency in pediatrics or equivalent experience. Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification is required within two years of the date of hire.
