The infectious diseases (ID) division at Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital has multiple consult teams supported by several clinical pharmacy specialists, has a long-standing antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP), and is a designated IDSA Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence.
The ID/ASP Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will be a valued member of the ID/ASP team, working directly with infectious diseases specialist providers and patients in the inpatient setting. The position will have a major role supporting optimization of our ASP services in addition to inpatient ID/ASP clinical service activities.
The infectious diseases/antimicrobial stewardship clinical pharmacy specialist evaluates and recommends appropriate drug therapy to achieve optimal cost-effective patient outcomes, by working directly with physicians, other health professionals, and patients. Participates in the development, provision and evaluation of comprehensive pharmaceutical care and quality assurance programs through scholarly activities. Serves as a resource to the pharmacy staff and other hospital departments. Participates in the education and training of healthcare professionals and healthcare professionals in training. They will assist with drug therapy optimization, selection and monitoring as well as transition of care optimization for patients receiving antimicrobial therapy on a daily basis. This position will be well integrated in the day-to-day aspects of antimicrobial stewardship, and they will contribute to both local and system level antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.
PharmD, PGY1 Residency, Missouri pharmacist license with Medication Therapy Services Certification, Board Certification within three years of hire. PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency training (or equivalent) is preferred.
