Geisinger is recruiting for PGY2 specialty residency positions in the areas of oncology, critical care, infectious disease, and emergency medicine, a clinical fellow for their Specialty Medicine and Cannabis Practice & Policy program, and a fellow in the Center for Pharmacy Innovation and Outcomes (CPIO). The residencies are 12-month positions and the fellowships a 24-month position, both with an opportunity to be hired into a full-time position after graduation.
The critical care residency is ASHP accredited and offers two positions per year. Our residency offers a dynamic and innovative experience for pharmacists to become exceptional critical care clinicians. In addition to robust, diversified experiences in bedside critical care, you’ll have opportunities to cultivate teaching and leadership skills. At our academic medical center, you will train in specialized intensive care units including a cardiothoracic/vascular unit, trauma unit, neonatal intensive care unit, multiple medical intensive care units, neuroscience unit, pediatric intensive care unit and surgical unit. We are a Level I Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and ECMO Center of Excellence. You’ll learn to respond to adult code and stroke alerts as well as additional emergency bedside responses. Our Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency offers two positions annually and delivers immersive training in high-acuity care. Residents gain hands-on experience at a Level I trauma center, managing complex adult and pediatric emergencies in fast-paced environments. The program also includes specialized electives such as toxicology, pre-hospital, and advanced rotations designed to build expertise in critical care, rapid response, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The infectious diseases residency is pre-candidate and seeking accreditation through ASHP and offers one position per year. The program provides experiential opportunities in adult and pediatric infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship, microbiology, outpatient HIV and hepatitis C care, transplant ID, oncology ID, infection prevention, and global health and medical missions. Additional experiences may be developed based on resident interest and preceptor availability. Geisinger is recruiting for the first of its kind 2-year pharmacy clinical fellowship in cannabis practice and policy with training in specialty medicine practices (behavioral health, neurology, gastroenterology, etc.). The residency is aimed at educating and training pharmacists imparting evidenced-based care to patients with a multitude of serious medical conditions identified to potentially benefit from medical cannabis use. Experiences consist of direct patient care and credentialing as well as appropriate use, advocacy, and policy development for cannabis within a health system. The goal of this residency is to develop a cohort of pharmacists with the knowledge, skill, and tools to work in health systems as experts in the safe, effective, and evidenced based use of cannabis.
The Center for Pharmacy Innovation and Outcomes Fellowship is a highly individualized two-year program designed to develop pharmacists capable of transforming pharmacy practice. Fellows will integrate into the Geisinger pharmacy team, gaining hands-on experience in advanced practice, informatics, economic modeling, and leadership. They will engage in research, from idea generation to execution and analysis, and will have opportunities to present findings at national meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals. This fellowship offers a unique chance to collaborate on funded projects and pursue advanced training in research design and analysis.
