The PGY2 Solid Organ Transplant (SOT) residency program is designed to provide the resident advanced training in the fields of organ transplantation and immunology. The resident will be a vital member of a multidisciplinary team consisting of physicians, nurses, transplant coordinators, and other members of the transplant team.
Houston Methodist J.C. Walter Jr. Transplant Center provides care for kidney, pancreas, liver, heart, lung and multiorgan transplant recipients. Primary responsibilities within the team include reviewing all drug therapy, therapeutic drug monitoring, medication histories, and discharge counseling. The resident will also conduct individual research to be submitted for publication with the support of program preceptors and medical staff collaborators.
Training among a group of 50 clinical pharmacists and 22 residents, the SOT resident will have ample teaching opportunities including providing instruction to doctor of pharmacy students and mentoring PGY1 residents. The resident will provide an ACPE-accredited CE program and can participate in an optional teaching certificate program through the University of Houston College of Pharmacy.
