The Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH) is a 1,146-bed academic medical center recognized worldwide for excellence in patient care, research, and education. As part of Johns Hopkins Medicine—a $10 billion global health enterprise—JHH integrates a leading medical school and health system to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centered care across six hospitals and numerous community sites.
The Department of Pharmacy is one of the most comprehensive in the nation, with over 450 FTEs including more than 270 pharmacists and 170 pharmacy technicians. The department provides centralized and decentralized pharmacy services, supports 16 ASHP-accredited residency programs, maintains affiliation agreements with 11 schools of pharmacy, and delivers over 50 hours of ACPE-accredited continuing education each year. Clinical pharmacists at JHH practice under a progressive model that integrates direct patient care, education, research, and continuous quality improvement.
Pediatric Pharmacy Division
The Pediatric Pharmacy Division provides comprehensive clinical and operational pharmacy services for patients cared for within the Charlotte Bloomberg Children’s Center and Kennedy Krieger Institute. The division supports more than 280 inpatient beds across general pediatrics, oncology and hematopoietic cell transplant, critical care, cardiology, neonatology, surgery, and psychiatry, and provides pharmacy services to multiple ambulatory clinics and infusion areas.
With 89 FTEs, the division includes clinical pharmacists, coordinators, specialists, residents, and pharmacy technicians who partner closely with interdisciplinary care teams. Clinical pharmacists provide medication order review and verification, therapeutic drug monitoring, pharmacokinetic dosing, student and resident preceptorship, emergency code and rapid response coverage, and are eligible to participate in the Practitioner Recognition Program. The division also leverages advanced technology such as APOTECAped sterile compounding robotics and Epic-integrated decision support tools to enhance accuracy, safety, and workflow efficiency.
Clinical Pharmacist I team members provide centralized clinical and operational support through medication order verification, therapeutic drug monitoring, and coordination with operations. Clinical Pharmacist II team members perform similar core responsibilities as Clinical Pharmacist I staff but with additional emphasis on daily rounding with multidisciplinary teams, direct patient education, and transitions of care services.
Clinical Pharmacist I – Pediatrics (Rotating Shifts)
Job Summary: The Clinical Pharmacist I provides centralized clinical pharmacy services for pediatric patients across the Charlotte Bloomberg Children’s Center and Kennedy Krieger Institute. This role integrates medication order verification, therapeutic drug monitoring, interdisciplinary collaboration, and emergency response participation. Pharmacists in this role also contribute to patient education, preceptorship, and continuous improvement initiatives. There is not typically a routine rounding component to this position.
Qualifications:
PharmD from an accredited College of Pharmacy
Maryland pharmacist licensure (or eligibility)
PGY1 residency training or equivalent hospital experience preferred
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Schedule: Full-time, rotating (40 hours/week, includes weekend and evening coverage)
