Dear Prospective Fellowship Candidate, 

The USC Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Gilead Sciences, Inc. are proud to offer one 12-month Global Medical Affairs Oncology Fellowship. This fellowship is designed to provide recent graduates an opportunity to learn the skills and experiences to excel across the pharmaceutical industry. The Fellow will play a key role in the creation of medical strategy, content, and the dissemination of best-in-class medical information. The fellowship is based at the Gilead headquarters in Foster City, California.  

Duration: 1 year (July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027)

Global Medical Affairs Oncology Fellowship Activities: 

Oncology Medical Affairs External-Sponsored Research:
Manage projects related to the review, approval, and medical oversight of the Oncology Medical
Affairs collaborative studies research program.

Local Medical Affiliate Engagement:
Build and maintain relationships with local medical affairs teams (in-house strategy, field
personnel) to both gather insights to inform global strategy and provide training on global
medical evidence generation strategy, processes, and projects.

Medical Affairs Launch Activities:
Support various launch activities including advisory board planning, congress preparation,
publication planning, content generation for global and affiliate use.

Operational Excellence:
Collaborate with the Global Medical Affairs team to work on projects regarding process
improvement and implementation of innovative technology.

Compliance:
Learn and comply with regulations and guidance from the various national and global regulatory
agencies that govern the pharmaceutical industry.

Collaboration:
Collaborate with colleagues from other departments to learn about the role of Global Medical
Affairs in the wider organization.

External-Department Rotations:
Based on the fellow’s interests, there is an opportunity to participate in rotations with external
departments to gain comprehensive experience and skills in pharmaceutical industry.

Potential departments to perform a rotation with may include Affiliate Medical Affairs, Field-
Based Medical Sciences, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, etc.

USC Graduate Coursework:
Fellows may complete graduate coursework at the University of Southern California with the
opportunity to pursue a Graduate Certificate in a variety of fields.

Leadership & Career Development:
Fellows will have opportunities for leadership, teaching, and professional growth, including
mentoring PharmD students and engaging in professional development activities such as goal
setting, strengths identification/assessments, advising, coaching, and mentoring at USC.

Minimum Application Requirements: The candidate must be a US citizen/permanent resident and have completed a PharmD, MD, PhD or equivalent doctorate degree from an accredited college or university within five years of initial appointment and a minimum doctoral program GPA of 3.0, have good oral and written communication skills, ethics, professionalism, leadership, and an interest in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Interview Process: First round interviews will be conducted virtually, while second and final interviews will take place in-person at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. Fellowship reception invitations may be extended to select candidates.
